Overview

PHD ("we", "our", "the app") is a pet food analysis tool that helps pet owners make informed decisions about their pet's nutrition. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Information We Collect

• Account credentials: A user-chosen ID and a PIN (hashed and salted before storage). We do not collect your real name, email, phone number, or Apple ID.
• Pet profiles: Information you voluntarily provide about your pets (name, type, breed, age, weight, health conditions, photo). This is stored to personalize food analysis results.
• Scan data: Photos of pet food labels are processed in real-time to extract ingredient lists. Label images are processed in memory and are not permanently stored on our servers — only the extracted text and analysis results are retained.
• Community data: Products you save to your list may be visible to other users in the community feed. Your user ID is displayed alongside saved products.
• Usage data: Scan counts and feature usage to provide level/badge features. No personal analytics or third-party tracking SDKs are used.

How We Use Your Information

• To analyze pet food ingredients and provide informational nutritional scores.
• To cache analysis results so repeated scans of the same product are faster.
• To sync your pet profiles and scan history across sessions.
• To display community trends and saved products to other users.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate PHD:

• Google Cloud Vision: Optical character recognition (OCR) for extracting text from label photos. Only the image is sent; no personal data is included.
• Google Gemini AI: Ingredient analysis and product metadata extraction. Only ingredient text and product type are sent; no personal or pet-specific data is included in AI requests.
• SerpAPI / Google Images: Product identification images are sourced from public web searches for display purposes only. These images remain the property of their respective owners.
• Cloudflare R2: Secure cloud storage for pet profile photos and product images.
• Railway: Cloud infrastructure hosting our backend services and database.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is shared with third-party services listed above solely to provide app functionality.

Data Storage & Security

Data is stored on secure servers (Railway cloud infrastructure) and Cloudflare R2. Your PIN is hashed using bcrypt before storage. All network communication uses HTTPS encryption. Pet profiles and authentication tokens are also cached locally on your device.

Data Retention & Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time by using the "Delete Account" feature in Settings. This removes your account, pet profiles, scan history, and saved products from both your device and our servers. You may also contact us directly to request data deletion.

Your Rights (CCPA / GDPR)

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

• Right to Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Right to Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data.
• Right to Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Right to Data Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Right to Opt-Out: We do not sell personal data, but you may opt out of community visibility in Settings.

Children's Privacy

PHD does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is intended for pet owners and does not require any sensitive personal information to function.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
